Are Certain Sex Positions More Likely to Lead to Pregnancy?

Are certain sexual positions more likely to lead to pregnancy?

The bad news is - there isn’t much research on what position can improve chances for pregnancy. The issue is that there are so many other factors that come into play that it is difficult to really know how much the position matters. Therefore, the short answer is that there really isn’t a specific position that has been shown to significantly improve prweegnancy rates.

BUT - the good is news is, there ARE some things you can do! We do know that presumably the closer you’re able to get sperm to the cervix, the closer the sperm is to getting to where it needs to go in order to cause a pregnancy (i.e. fertilize an egg). Therefore, there are certain positions with many couples that can allow for deeper penetration so that with ejaculation the sperm can be deposited closer to the cervix. These include the missionary position (male partner on top) and doggystyle (male partner from behind). However, any position that is allowing for appropriate penetration and ejaculation should be enough to satisfy the necessary requirements for getting the sperm to where it needs to go.

Lastly - it is well known that there can be major stress involved when trying having sex in the setting of trying for pregnancy - to the point that erectile dysfunction or issues with orgasm can be an issue. Many men have no issues with erections/ejaculation normally, but find they struggle when it's 'gametime' (i.e. during ovulation of their partner, etc). And issues like low semen volume, erectile dysfunction, and issues with achieving orgasm/ejaculation in general are not uncommon issues that can lead to problems with fertility.

So if you have any questions about any of this, or concerns about performing in the bedroom while trying for pregnancy then head over to a male fertility specialist for an evaluation. They can absolutely help!
